Vermont

Woah--talk about going away for a few days and needing a few days when you get back to get your life together. All I can say is, my clothes from the past three weeks that were strewn about are hung up (no small task for me as hanging clothes up ranks right up there with fighting the crowds at Trader Joe's on a Saturday afternoon) and I actually prepared a few delicious salads from my farmers market loot.

I am finding my way again.

Needless to say, I'm sorting through pictures from my relaxing getaway to VT and it just reminds me how beautiful it is there. We had a great weekend filled with long walks, farm animals, strawberry picking and classic movies. It was exactly what it should have been and I'm lucky to have gone!

More stories to come in bits and pieces this week but here are a few great snaps from our weekend o' country livin'.

(Again, if these pictures were larger they would look a little bit nicer--aka click them cause I said so!)

Country Girl

James and I are headed to Vermont for the weekend. Getting out of the city is one thing--but heading to Vermont is another. It is beautiful there, especially this time of year. Farm stands, strawberry fields, sheep and tall grass. I can't wait.

We talk a lot about the city vs. the country. Which is better? Can you have the best of both worlds? Do you have to choose to be one or the other? I just don't know. I suppose you travel and you try both and things fall into place. Right?

(taken last year on our trip to VT)

I plan to breathe in all the clean air, sit in the sun and do some antique shopping. James plans to catch the sunrise with his camera (I plan to sleep and dream country dreams of horses. )

I keep saying to James, "But we have to find some horses!" and he is quick to refer to our COMPLETELY DEVOTED TO HORSES vacation we just went on. Oh well, I'm always looking for them and if not in the country, than where?!

Tuesday Tunes

Happy Tuesday! Bop along to these tunes while you do what you do : )

Summer in the Ciitaayy

James takes much more advantage of this city than I do. Despite his whining about the dirty crowded subways and the lack of space--I think he really does enjoy a lot of the time he spends here. He is always walking around in places I've never been and Central Park is like his second home.

My inability to relax prohibits me from lounging under a tree for an hour or so--I need to be power walking from one end of the park to the other but James knows how to just relax, observe the strangeness of city folks and take some gorgeous photos while doing it.

I should follow his lead and explore a bit more--there is so much to see in this big summer city.

MTK

Went to visit my gorgeous and talented brother on Saturday night. He is spending a good portion of the summer in The Hamptons doing Equus. I went out Saturday afternoon and it was beautiful. Got to spend some quality time with him, breathe in the ocean air, catch a sneak peek at Alec Baldwin and see JP's show.

It was totally relaxing and being by the beach was just what the doctor ordered.

Yay for summer that actually FEELS like summer! xo

Bored

Dear Internet,

I'm needing a bit of a pick me up. Can you help?

I'm bored.

(via James)

I need to do more and move and get out there. I need to make the most of this time in NYC and make the most of these young years. I know all this--but knowing and doing are OBVIOUSLY different.

I want to skip all these seemingly necessary steps of less than fulfilling jobs on some (or is it most?) days and small apartments with random roommates and head right into dream jobs and horses and gardens.

I know I shouldn't rush it. I KNOW.

I'm in search for a new mindset, will let you know when I find it.

Put Your Records On

Yesterday as I was browsing through The Container Store after work (for what exactly? for nothing. simply for the reason that it is right near my office, it contains just about everything that anyone could ever THINK they might need but actually don't) this song came on as I rounding the corner into my favorite section of the store: GIFT WRAP!

This could very well be cheesy but I love this song. I remember being in college and playing this song on repeat over and over on those spring/summer-ish nights when I was studying but probably not actually studying and my roommate/friend Jess would complain "AGAIN?!" Yes Jess, again.

This song has the uncanny ability to lift my spirits and maybe yours too?

Tree me, please!

Stumbled upon this awesome handmade tree via Oh Happy Day! and basically--who wants one?

I'm thinking of making myself one but then the little surprise boxes wouldn't be very surprise like but still so much fun.

Keeping Track..

I've been thinking quite a bit lately about canceling my gym membership for the summer.

On the one hand, it is beautiful outside and usually not THAT hot either early AM or later PM and by working out outside, instead of in a gym, I can get some Vitamin D and enjoy my neighborhood. It would motivate me to continue my running outside, which is much more challenging for me than inside, and it would allow me to pack less everyday for work. I'm usually carrying at least 5 bags that each weigh at least 100 lbs and I have probably injured approximately 43 people by ramming them with my belongings.

Oh--also its cheaper!

On the other hand, the gym is right across the street from my office. It allows me to have a little entertainment while I work out (I'll admit it, I watch Oprah on the treadmill!) which usually quiets my complaining and passes the time. It also has the benefit of free weights and nautilus equipment.

What to do?

In my constant search for a healthy and balanced lifestyle, exercising is important but lets be honest, sometimes it is hard to get in your workout regardless of the venue. Like right now, for instance, I am eating chips and salsa while I type this. I did not work out today. Today I am tired. Today I want to bake lemon bars instead of run. Today is a lazy day. It wouldn't matter where my workout was held--today it wouldn't happen anyway.

Speaking of health, check THIS out. Maggie Mason mentioned it on her blog today and I am instantly fascinated. It tracks my steps AND my sleep?! Food journals? Water journals? I'm kind of into it! I've always wanted to get a pedometer to see exactly what kind of exercise I get walking around this big city and this little device does a lot more than that.

Anyone have one?

Return to Sender

This would make the perfect wedding gift!

(via oh so beautiful paper)

I seriously wish I was living in a more permanent location so I could get one of these for myself. There is something about having things on PAPER--sending a LETTER--writing an address. I love it. Don't get me wrong, my blackberry is very useful and email is a great communication tool but I'd be lieing if I said that seeing a letter in my mailbox didn't get me all excited.

Congrats!

NO--NOT FENWAY PARK! FENWAY QUALTERS!

LOOK AT THAT FACE!

Part of why I love going home to visit my family is this guy. Could he be any cuter?

I also like going home because of this..

My mom's cooking is fab. She mentioned getting take out and then I instantly started weeping. Well no, I wasn't crying but for real--I LIVE IN NYC. TAKE OUT?! Give me some home coooooookin'.

But, the real reason I went home is for this beautiful chick--my sister Paige. She was graduating from high school this past weekend and I had to be there.

Congrats!

Listen!

Do you know about PS22 Chorus? If not, you should. Google them--and then spend your whole night listening to ridiculously good renditions of popular songs you might not have otherwise enjoyed and (if you're anything like me) start wondering why these elementary schools kids are doing such awesome stuff and your at home watching you tube.

Okay, go.

Summer Party

I wish I had my own apartment. I wish it was airy and light and had tons of windows. I wish there was a big back patio with a table big enough to fit all my friends. I wish little sparkle lights could be strung up all around and that there were fresh flowers everywhere.

I wish I had all this so I could host some summer parties. I want to play hostess.

Some would call me a people pleaser. Is that a bad thing? Maybe not. But I just want to bring together good people, serve up delicious food and summer cocktails. I want folksy music bopping away in the background and happy people chatting together.

I mean seriously, could this sound any more CHEESY! BUT, I WANT IT. Okay, now I'm just whining. But for real, some one lend me their apartment so I can host a party? I promise to clean up.

IF I had the venue for such an occasion it would be filled with things like these:

Pretty place cards from Timeless Paper via Felt & Wire Shop

Lilac Bouquets like the one via flower school

ROOTBEER FLOAT CUPCAKES (obviously) via smitten kitchen

I'd play music like this:

and

I swear it would be fun. Let's make it happen.
